Hey, post more.

Welcome back! While I never travelled myself, I never really understood the point. If you look at the map, it's just human dwellings one after another. And aren't all human material culture ultimately the same? There are only two kinds, agriculture and pastoralists, and the nomals have gone the way of hunter-gathered since... Unless you mean the social experiences? Now that would obviously be worthwhile because culture is the most distinct thing about human ethnicities, but you'd need to be sociable (and maybe even good-looking) for that, which is impossible to gain without the proper genetics.

I got out of it a combination of social experiences, nature, cities and culture (for me that was museums and concerts) that are different and can't be experienced from my home in Australia. Also the mental shift while travelling. You become much more open to doing things that you otherwise wouldn't do. I do imagine that the social experiences wouldn't be much if someone was ugly, since most people are subtly repulsed by ugly people and wouldn't "open" or "hold the door" to them for experiences and good conversation. Thankfully I am not ugly. But socialisation isn't all there is to travelling, although I had some good experiences from it. Much of the time I was alone (95% of my cycling stretch), in fact I was beginning to look homeless which gave me a window into how undesirable people are perceived by society. Nevertheless I greatly enjoyed it.

YaY! You're back. It sounds like a blast to do that. Should've done more things like that when I had the chance.
